Funny Firm - Writers Guidelines

Do you want to contribute to The Funny Firm?  Here's some background information on The Funny Firm and a few simple guidelines for submitting material:

First, about us.  The Funny Firm is two things.  The Funny Firm is a daily, subscriber supported e-mail and interent joke service for radio stations. The Funny Firm is also a web page where material is posted daily.  Funny Firm material is used every day by radio people around the world.  We currently have subscribers at radio stations in many different countries, however most of our users are here in the United States.  The Funny Firm was started in 1991 as a fax service to radio personalities, we then moved to the Internet in 1995.  Anything submitted to the Funny Firm has the potential to be heard by literally millions of radio listeners.  Some of the radio stations who use our material, quote the name of the writer on the air.

First. We like material with broad appeal.  

We like topical jokes.  Think, Jay Leno and David Letterman.

For topics, think about what people around the watercooler going to talk about today.

We also like strange original  "top 10" type lists, also jokes based on Hollywood gossip.   

We want original material written by YOU!  If you wrote it put your name next to it.

Although not required, when submitting material we like jokes to be formatted like this:

Actor Martin Sheen was arrested Tuesday after he and seven other protesters blocked the entrance to a strawberry farm in California. *If Martin Sheen keeps this up, he'll have a rap sheet longer than say....Charlie Sheen. (Mark Wheeler)

Please use upper and lower case lettering.

As a general rule, we don't like "chain letter" material, like compilations of computer jokes, old jokes, vulgar jokes etc....

When you send material, it will first go out to our radio station subscribers by e-mail and our subscriber section of our web page.  So after you send material, don't be surprised if it takes a few days or even a week to show up on the page.  Submit material as often as you like. Currently we don't pay for material, however we do give writing credit next to each gag you submit.
